Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan

The Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan (KTH) is a university and RTD performer. KTH will mainly contribute to the integration of the developed expander in a new heat pump and its extensive testing in the laboratory, as defined in the work programme. KTH has a wide experience and is active for over 30 years in the field of heat pumps and refrigeration units, focusing on all aspects of these systems, from components and refrigerants to integration of heat pump systems in buildings and district heating networks. Also, KTH has participated in numerous EC and National funded projects, dealing with vapour-compression units, such as Ground-Med, Geo-Power, Sherhpa, NxtHPG, Green HP, Effsys, Effsys2, Effsys+, NARECO2 and others. Within the framework of these projects, different configurations have been investigated and tested: Heat pumps with natural refrigerants (CO2, NH3, hydrocarbons), novel heat exchanger technologies (microchannel hx, evaporators with porous surfaces, novel borehole heat exchangers), low-charge systems, geothermal heat pumps, ejector cooling, all proving the division’s technological excellence on such technologies. KTH expects to further expand its know-how on work-recovery from such units, while achieving the technical objectives for the benefit of the participating SMEs. The KTH personnel to be involved in the current project has considerable experience in both numerical simulation and experimental work relevant to heat pumps.
